We had a “Get Ready Rally” as in get ready for the Big One in front of the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live last Friday evening following the Drop, Cover, and Hold On exercise the day before where 5.4 Million people in homes, schools, businesses, government offices, and public places all over Southern California participated. The Rally was presented by Art Center College of Design, and it was my pleasure to co-mc the event where I introduced people who study what happens when the earth moves, and those who respond when it does.
That’s me with from left to right: Jason Tester who is the Design Research Manager at the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto, and the lead story teller of After Shock which is the worlds first disaster simulation modeled after the ShakeOut scenario,Doctor Bernard Kline who is the Chief Medical Officer for Providence Healthcare, San Fernando Valley area, which includes Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.
Marianna Amatullo, Vice President, International Initiatives and Director of Designmatters at Art Center College of Design.
And a familiar face to everyone Doctor Lucy Jones, Chief Scientist for the Multi Hazards Demonstration Project for our area and U.S. Geological Survey.
Those involved would like to make Drop, Cover, and Hold On a yearly drill saying they do it in Japan.
