The Active Lifestyle: Comments From Carson - May 12, 2008

by JIM CARSON

I took a break from golf Mothers Day weekend and worked on my cycling endurance with a nice two and a half hour uphill-downhill ride Saturday. Then an hour and a half uphill-downhill ride Sunday.

Cycling, like everything else in life, is one man’s ceiling and another man’s floor.

I talked with Edmundo, who lives one street over and meets a group every Sunday morning at seven in the Tudor Time pre-school parking lot and head out to reaches far and wide. I was walking off Mothers Day brunch with the family dog seeing Edmundo watering his front lawn, I made the neighborly gesture of instigating a “How’s the bike riding?”

He launched into telling me that they met at their usual seven AM and rode to Mulholland Highway and back, saying that he cut it short because he wanted to be home by one. He asked how my riding is going, I told him where I got my miles in and he said “Oh, 30 miles, and 20 miles.”

Not quite the Mullholland Highway tour, but like I said, one man’s ceiling is another man’s floor.
