We had our monthly “Home” golf tournament for January before the rains came. It was a “Four man best ball scramble” format.
For those who may not be familiar with exactly what a four man best ball scramble is, it’s a lot of fun with not too much pressure. The only real pressure is the mandatory four drives off the tee from each player in the group, and we got it down to the last two holes for Don.
Talk about pressure to hit a good drive!
Don came thru for us with two nice drives. In fact, one of his best drives of the day was on the final 18th hole. After the mandatory four drives from each player in the foursome, it’s just a matter of selecting the best shot from each player in the foursome, and playing the best shots until the ball is holed out.
Anyway, it was Bill, Roger, Don, and yours truly with a combined handicap of 9 which when it was all said and done was good enough for a 6th place finish in the low net category -- not awful for a bunch of hacks but not quite good enough to win anything except good camaraderie, a lot of laughs, Don, Bill, and Roger smoking some quality cigars.
Even though we were not Tigeresque in performance, if you’re me, it was a great day of recreational activity. I got to work on my golf game which is an ongoing work in progress!
