Guest: Abbe Land, Co-CEO of The Los Angeles Free Clinic, the oldest continuously operating free clinic in the nation. The Los Angeles Free Clinic provides free medical and dental care, counseling, HIV testing, health education, prenatal care and wellness programs, for thousands of the uninsured each year. She also talked about their efforts to branch out and provide literacy services to Free Clinic patients and ministering to the whole individual. Ms. Land also promoted an upcoming Golf fundraising event that will help support the programs and services of the clinic.

Guest: Danny Levy, Development Manager from Aid For AIDS, Inc., discussed the HIV/AIDS epidemic in LA County. He also talked about their annual “Dine Out Los Angeles” fundraising event where participating restaurants all around Los Angeles contribute 20% or more of their day’s sales to Aid For AIDS. Aid For AIDS provides financial assistance for the basic necessities of life to those impoverished and disabled by HIV/AIDS. The 2008 event is set for Thursday, April 17th, and our listeners were encouraged to gather friends, co-workers or family and go out to EAT for a good cause.

Guest: Jodee Blanco, author of Please Stop Laughing At Us:One Survivor’s Extraordinary Quest to Stop School Bullying, discussed her book and anti bullying program that she designed after surviving years of painful and cruel bullying in her own life. She described some of the bulling personalities and explained how their actions can often escape detection by teachers and school administrators.

Guest: Kerjon Lee, PIO, Watershed Management Division County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, was here to discuss the Departments focus on Storm warter Pollution Prevention. Part of their mission is to oversee storm water public education and information programs designed to reach the 10.3 million residents of the county with the crucial messages about water quality and the impact they have on the environment as well as the steps they can take to protect and improve it.
