K-Earth and WICKED are teaming up to collect 101 tips for leading a greener lifestyle. All this week, K-EARTH 101 All Access Members can send us their own tips to add to the list. Buy local, organic food to reduce pesticide use, support local farmers and decrease CO2 emissions from flying produce around the world.
Replace one beef meal each week to save 40K gallons of water and 300 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions out of the atmosphere.
Compost food leftovers.
Carry groceries in reusable bags and/or return plastic bags at the grocery store.
Turn appliances off when not in use, especially television and computers to avoid "phantom" energy.
Buy energy efficient appliances with the EnergyStar label.
Use eco-friendly cleaning products that degrade naturally and reduce water pollution.
Turn off the water while brushing teeth.
Choose a shower instead of a bath and replace showerheads and faucets with high-efficiency models.
Put a brick (or other object) in toilet tank to reduce water per flush.
Turn down thermostat three degrees in winter, up three degrees in summer.
Replace incandescent bulbs with performance compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).
