One of my best friends told me how her parents dragged her to Las Vegas to see Elvis at the Hilton. She went, begrudgingly and grumbled about having to see Elvis all the way there.
As her story went on, the official Elvis theme music kicked and Elvis showed his leg from behind the curtain and the place went wild. My friend did too, screaming and crying the entire concert. A fan for life.
Years later, I had the chance to see Elvis in concert at the Anaheim Convention Center. I remembered my friends experience and chuckled.
No way was I going to become a screaming, crying Elvis fan. I liked Elvis and all, I just couldn’t imagine being that out of control. And then, the theme music kicked in and there he was – Elvis. And there I was screaming and crying – and laughing at the whole wonderful experience.
I still cry when I watch the ’68 Comeback Special – I mean, come on, Elvis in black leather – wow. I’m getting goose bumps just thinking about him.
