It’s always good to welcome a R&R legend, and this morning we got to do just that when Gary Lewis, of Gary Lewis and the Playboys, stopped by! Full disclosure: Gary’s broter Chris is a very good friend of mine, and he gave me the following tidbits on his big brother:
- Gary was the Speed Racer champion of the San Fernando Valley in his purple Shelby Mustang GT500! (And still very proud of it!)
- Gary lived in the pool house in Brentwood when he was a kid, and had band practice there. The Lewis’ neighbor, Robert Stack, popped over frequently to complain!
- Gary’s gourmet specialty is “partially baked brownies!” Here’s the key: If the recipe says “Bake for 30 minutes,” bake ‘em for 25 minutes!

Y'all make me feel as if I am still in Los Angeles (born & raised there). Love your show. I think my old office, Ed Paster & Son Plumbing, still listens to you. When I was there they did not have a choice. My new office, Corley Plumbing & Electric in Greenville, SC has no choice either. They all seem to know all the words even though they are all quite a bit younger than me. Would you please tell Jhani Kaye that I appreciate his choices in music.
