Like many on-air radio personalities, Bruce Chandler fell in love with radio in his early teens. He started in the broadcasting field in college, where he did weekend news on his hometown station KMEN while attending San Bernardino Valley College and doing a weekly DJ shift on the KVCR-FM, the college station. He worked his way up to the 8-midnight shift at KMEN as his first full-time assignment. Then moved on to afternoons at crosstown KFXM; but got his first real "big break" when he was hired at Top 40 station KEZY /"The Big 1190" in Orange County. Two years later, Bruce broke into Los Angeles radio at KIQQ (K-100FM), where he started in the evenings, and, eventually moved to mornings. A short time after, he was paired with the late Tony St. James and entertained Southern California for many years as part of "Bruce and Tony," where they were once named by Los Angeles Magazine as one of the best morning shows in Los Angeles.
Born in Englewood, New Jersey, Bruce moved to Los Angeles during the summer of 1955, just in time for Bill Haley and the Comets to usher in the rock ‘n roll era with their chart-topping hit "Rock Around the Clock." That same summer , Disneyland opened and it was like manna from heaven for Bruce and his family, tired of the East Coast snow. He ultimately graduated from Fontana High School and went on to attend Riverside City College and San Bernardino Valley College.
Bruce came to K-EARTH in 2001 at the behest of his good friend, K-EARTH Program Director at the time, Jay Coffey, who he met and worked with at K-100.
He laughs, "This is the third time around for me, and I finally got a regular shift in September of 2001."
Before coming back to K-EARTH, Bruce was - and still is - the full-time Monday through Friday morning show personality at Dial-Global's KOOL GOLD 24/7 Digital Formats network. When he’s not on the air, he enjoys reading, watching TV sports, especially the Dodgers and the Angels, and collecting CDs.
And when you ask Bruce if he’s won any awards during his broadcasting career, he quickly replies, "Yes! Every day that I'm still working full-time in the business that I love is reward enough for me!"
